A creative upbringing allowed Michael to start developing his visual/conceptual talents, including photography, at an early age. In Michael’s last years at high school he got involved in the film industry, both on and off set, learning a lot about commercial production. Michael did a desk top publishing and design course at the beginning of 2003 and went on to live and work in the UK. Returning to SA, he moved to Cape Town to start a three year course at City Varsity Film School.

Starting in a class of 60, Michael won best film three years in a row. He was involved in more than 30 short films and directed over 14 of his own including two music videos. His work was nominated and won awards both locally and internationally. During this time he also worked as a second unit director.

With Be Phat Motel, Michael has developed two feature film scripts with screenwriter Sean Drummond. ‘The Lambda Child’ and ‘Five Fingers for Marseilles’. In this period he has also made award winning commercials, short films and music videos for MTV(UK, USA and Base), Axe/Lynx, Nike, Kulula(airlines), Wrigleys chewing gum and the Loeries(SA advertising awards). He has recently directed 3 commercials in Australia.

The half hour film, Sweetheart, is Michael’s latest narrative work. It has thus-far screened at festivals in South Africa, Poland, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Singapore, Costa Rica and the USA. Sweetheart also garnered interest from a number of influential online platforms, leading him to being invited to Los Angeles to meet top agents and studios including Fox, Warner Brothers and WME.
